Important: Before proceeding, if using APs or a mesh, make sure it is in bridge/AP mode. Failure to do so will result in a double-NAT situation and the app may not be able to find the Island.
Step 1:
Power up Island. Wait about 30 seconds for the light to turn from white to blue.
Step 2:
Within 5 minutes of powering up Island, plug Island into the switch. Within seconds, Island’s Smart Swap feature learns the existing network addresses.
If connecting to the existing LAN does not occur during this 5 minute window, Smart Swap will not succeed.
Important: This is now your LAN port. Note the port number.
Step 3:
Identify the cable connecting the WAN port on the existing router. Unplug it from the existing router and plug it into any port on the Island (either a 2.5G port or 10G port with appropriate transceiver).
Important: This is now your Island WAN port. Note the port number. Reboot the modem.
Note: Some modems have an internal battery backup. If so, remove the battery before reboot.
Step 4:
Once the WAN connection is established on Island (as typically indicated by a solid light on the modem), unplug the existing router from the switch. Remove the old router.
Your hardware setup is now completed.
Step 5:
Now continue with software setup using either the mobile app or the web app.
Recommended: If using the web app, plug a laptop into the switch, open a browser, and type my.islandrouter.com to continue with setup.
If using the mobile app, make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi and launch the app if you haven’t already. The app will discover Island and continue with setup.
