Island Installation Options for Router Replacement when not using Smart Swap®
IMPORTANT
If you are adding Island to an existing, working network, the instructions in this section are for you. The router function in your existing network may be a wired (non-WiFi) router, a single-unit WiFi router, a WiFi mesh system, or may be embedded in an ISP-supplied combo or “gateway" unit.
If your existing network uses either a wired or a WiFi router, Island will replace those hardware units, and during install, you will be instructed to remove them from the network.
If your existing router is a WiFi mesh or an ISP combo unit, you will not replace or remove any existing gear, you will simply add Island.
In every case, WiFi must be made available for an Island network. In the case of a wired router, a WiFi router, or an ISP combo unit, WiFi AP’s or a mesh system must exist or be added to the network. In the case of an existing WiFi mesh, the mesh system will still supply WiFi to the network.
Choose the appropriate scenario that describes your existing network to continue.
